Buran Space Shuttle Exhibition
The story of Buran, the first re-usable spacecraft designed by the Soviet Union was a fascinating account of the final days of the cold war space race. While almost identical in appearance to the United States space shuttle, Buran (Russian for snow-storm) utilised the full resources of Soviet industry to deliver this state-of-the-art vehicle and its monster launch rocket – Energia.
Brian’s role as Project Director and designer was to conceive and create the total experience for the public within a purpose-built exhibit at darling Harbour. As incredulous as it seemed, Brian worked with the team and the Russian engineers to transport and install the actual Buran space vehicle within the exhibit.
